Method and material

Spray application is a method.
The system still comes first.

Machine application describes how suitable render or basecoat material is placed on the wall. It does not identify the whole system or establish how every subsequent layer will be applied. Preparation, reinforcement, levelling, detailing and finishing remain part of the specified work.

We discuss the application method against the chosen material, background and access. A coloured silicone finishing coat is different from the render or basecoat beneath it; do not assume that choosing a silicone system means every layer is sprayed.

Assessment before application

Suitable walls.
Clear preparation.

Brick and blockwork

Check construction, condition, surface contamination and junctions with other materials. New masonry and retained walls may require different preparation within a compatible specification.

Existing render and pebbledash

Assess bond and compatibility before retaining an old finish. Loose or failing material may need removal; machine application does not make an unsound coating secure.

Removal and replacement

Older walls and recurring defects

Investigate moisture and significant cracking before choosing a system. Older or solid-wall construction is not automatically suitable, and mesh is not a structural repair.

The proposed scope

From the background
to the finishing details.

The quotation should explain which material is being applied by machine and what preparation and finishing are included. Do not compare a price for application alone with a complete removal-and-replacement specification.

Access affects how the work can be carried out. Describe narrow routes, lower roofs, wall fittings and areas that need protection. Any proposed machinery position or material-handling arrangements need to suit the actual site rather than an assumed equipment setup.

Recently Rendered does not install complete board-based external wall insulation systems. Machine application of render or basecoat does not change that scope.

  1. 01

    Assess, protect and prepare

Define the elevations, check the existing layers and agree removal, repairs, access, protection and appropriate beads or junction details.

  2. 02

Apply the specified render or basecoat

Use an application method suitable for the agreed material and background. Reinforcement, layer build-up and levelling follow the system specification; not every operation is a spray stage.

  3. 03

Allow curing and complete the finish

Follow product-specific conditions and curing. Use a compatible primer where required, then apply and texture the selected finish by its appropriate method.

  4. 04

    Check details and discuss care

Inspect edges and junctions, confirm the included work and provide the relevant aftercare guidance for the installed system.

A separate coating service

Spray cork is
a different treatment.

Specialist spray cork is a thin coating for suitable refurbishment backgrounds. It is separate from machine-applied conventional render or basecoat and generally follows the texture of the surface beneath it.

The York cork photograph shows the masonry profile still visible. A coating does not replace missing render, secure loose material or provide a complete board-based insulation installation.

Planning your project

A clear scope.
A useful quotation.

For a York quotation, describe the property, existing surfaces and intended extent of work. The price needs to reflect preparation, system, access and finishing; no universal speed or cost saving is assumed from machine application.

  • Reinforcement, primer and final finish where specified

Homeowner questions

Do you offer both machine rendering and spray cork?

Yes. Recently Rendered offers machine-applied conventional rendering and basecoat systems, and a separate specialist spray cork coating service. Their materials, backgrounds and purposes should be discussed separately.

Is every layer sprayed on a machine-applied job?

No. The method for each stage depends on the specified product and work. Reinforcement, levelling, detailing and finishing still need their appropriate operations; the quotation should make the application scope clear.

Can machinery apply render over any existing surface?

No. Construction, coating bond, compatibility and defects must be assessed first. A machine cannot make an unsuitable background sound.

Does machine application guarantee a quicker or cheaper project?

No such universal saving is promised. Access, preparation, repairs, materials and curing still affect the programme and price. Compare the complete written scope.

Does the Earswick photograph show a machine-applied job?

Its record confirms the preparation and silicone system, but not the application method. It is used as a correctly attributed finished-render example, without claiming that the layers were sprayed.
